Jazmine Sullivan
Jazmine Sullivan was born and raised within Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam her mom has been a backup singer in the past at Philadelphia International Records. In the age of five Her father was appointed to the position of the city's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. Their family eventually moved into this historic building. She graduated in 2005 of the Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts where she was the vocal music instructor. Sullivan began singing in the children's choir as a contralto and then she joined the adult chorus just a few years after that. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was initially minimal "I was doing solos in the church, and I was asked to sign to a gospel label when I was 11, but I was not at the point of doing that," she recalls. After that, McDonald's held a contest with children from large cities. I had the opportunity to sing "Accept The Grace God Gives" in the show Showtime At the Apollo. And the crowd responded very well. Stevie Wonder sang her part for her son's 13th birthday celebration. Sullivan was signed initially to Jive Records at the age 15. As a teenager she signed with Jive Records. They recorded her whole album at Jive Records, however it was not made available for release. Sullivan was ultimately dropped from the record label. Missy Elliott was her producer for a few tracks from their debut album. The most notable of these was "Backstabbers" of Timbaland that Elliott wrote, was a hit.
